March 1, 2024 NEW Geolandar A/T4 G018 The Best All Terrain Tyre In The Range.

Hear what Yokohama tyre shop owners and 4WD expert Simon Christie, of 4WDTV, thought of their first drive of the new tyre at the launch event.
As the successor to the much-loved and best-selling GEOLANDAR A/T G015 tyre, the A/T4 boasts similar on-road comfort and low noise qualities. However, it takes a leap forward with its rugged design and off-road durability.
The precisely spaced angled tread block design, deep biting shoulder grooves and robust cut-resistant rubber compound equip the AT4 all terrain tyre for long-term performance on the unforgiving dirt roads and off-road tracks around Australia.

The terrain where the A/T4 performs incredibly well is at high speed on dirt roads. This is due to the superior construction, deep tread grooves, and cut-resistant compound. With Yokohama’s heritage in producing race-winning rally tyres, the A/T4 stands out in the lineup by delivering a smooth, predictable feel on loose surfaces while maintaining exceptional durability on sharp and rocky roads.
Let's be honest, the four-wheel-drive aftermarket industry is booming. There are endless accessories Australians can fit to their 4WDs. There are accessories that aid off-road capability, like EFS bullbars suspension lift kits and shock absorbers. Accessories that make camping more comfortable, like Bushwakka awnings and roof-top tents and EcoXGear like UHF radios and outdoor speakers. There are also accessories that style four wheel drive vehicles like Method Race Wheels, spot-lights, a set of Maxtrax and a kitted-out canopy. As a result, part of the design criteria for the AT4 is to have a rugged look which comes from a more blocky tread design.
Yokohama is a brand driven by performance. They're famous for race and performance car tyres. In recent years, Yokohama Geolandar has quietly been forging an enviable reputation in the off-road racing scene in America and with 4x4 enthusiasts in Australia.
Yokohama has runs on the board when it comes to developing exceptional all terrain tyres. The Geolandar A/T4 G018 is a fourth generation design which has evolved with the changing nature of 4x4 vehicles and tyre sizes. With each iteration of Geolandar All Terrain tyre comes a better construction which more evenly and efficiently creates a contact patch with the road or rough terrain. A quieter yet more grippy tread design. As well as rubber compound advancements which create more grip in cold conditions while resisting wear and chipping on rough terrain.
Geolandar A/T4 G018 Launch
The A/T4 was officially launched at The Bend Motorsport Park in Adelaide, bringing together 150 of Yokohama’s dealers from all over Australia. The attendees had the opportunity to put the tyres to the ultimate test with five dynamic activities, including skidpan exercises to see the tyre’s capabilities in the wet. Rally challenges on a dirt road, challenging the tyres to the gravel at high speeds. Off-road driving where participants navigated through tough terrains of muddy trails, steep inclines, and rocky paths, showcasing the tyres’ unbeatable grip and durability. And finally, the go-kart station where attendees had fun in the thrill of a fast-paced environment. Throughout the event, the tyres were faced with all kinds of conditions and were not changed all week- proving their impressive longevity and performance.
The tyre shop owners left the event with valuable knowledge and first-hand experience, ready to share their insights with customers about how the A/T4 truly delivers the best of both worlds.
Yokohama Geolandar A/T4 G018 tyres were tested on the skid pan. They're available in both Light Truck and regular constructions. In the past, light duty 4WDs like the Toyota Fortuna experienced poorer handling on wet roads with all terrain tyres with a light truck construction. However, while the regular construction provides greater on-road comfort, it was a hot topic of debate among Yokohama tyre shop owners which construction handled better during hard cornering. Both were impressive.
The Mitsubishi test track wasn't much of a challenge for the Geolandar A/T4 tyres on the standard Toyota Landcruisesr Prados. The whole course could be completed relying on tyre grip without needing to switch on 4x4 low range and without rear diff-lock.
